#Girlboss Week: Amanda Schauer

This post wraps up our #Girlboss week where we took a page (literally) out of Sophia Amoruso's bestselling book, #Girlboss, and featured 7 lovely powerhouses who also happen to be Boobypack Angels.

If you know a boss lady who should be featured here next month, let us know by emailing info@boobypack.com!

In Sophia's words: “While you’re reading this, I have three pieces of advice that I want you to remember: Don’t ever grow up. Don’t become a bore. Don’t ever let the Man get to you. Okay? Cool. Then let’s do this.”

Introducing #Girlboss Amanda Schauer:

Amanda has worked for Lilly Pulitzer, Nanette Lepore and Michael Kors. She's studied fashion merchandising at FIT, been a contestant in a reality TV show (House of DVF), lived in Europe and guess what?! She's only 21 years old. Holy moly. We first met Amanda when she modeled a Boobypack on the Katie Couric show and we could tell it wouldn't be her last time behind the camera. Smart, driven and beautiful, Amanda's the perfect Boobypack Brand Ambassador but will she be DVF's? We think she's a shoe in but tune into E! at 10pm on Sundays to find out.

1. Can you tell me a bit about your experience on House of DVF? Did you forget about the cameras after a while? Was anything scripted? Any juicy gossip/ reality TV secrets you learned while filming that you can share?

I can't share much about the TV show details, but I can say my experience was AMAZING. If you don’t already know about DVF, read up because this lady is so inspiring. I did forget about the cameras after about a week, but still always remembered they were there in the back of my mind (don’t pick your wedgie on camera). Nothing is scripted and I hate that some girls are claiming it was. You say what you say and if you’re embarrassed it’s your fault. The producers on my show were amazing people; I have become great friends with them.

2. What is your favorite part about your industry?

My favorite part about my industry is the personalities you come in contact with. Everyone I meet is interesting and has a story. There is never a dull moment in fashion and I will never be bored.

3. Has balancing school work with actual work ever been a challenge?

I’ve been lucky enough that my schoolwork and actual work never really overlapped. I took some time off from school while filming the House of DVF. I like to focus on what I’m doing and put my all into it, so I don’t put too much on my plate at once.

4. What keeps you motivated?

Truly it isn’t hard to keep me motivated. I am only 21; I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I just remind myself this is the most important, crucial time of my life to become who I want to be.

5. If you could have dinner with one famous person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

Definitely Oprah Winfrey. I am obsessed with her. She is such a kind-hearted woman. Diane is a friend of hers, so maybe one day!

6. Who are your role models?

My role models are my mom and Diane Von Furstenberg. Of course getting to know Diane really influences this answer for me. The two of these women are so inspirational. They remind me to always be myself and always be happy. See the glass half full!

7. If you had to pick one quote/phrase to live by, what would it be?

I love the lyric by artist India.Arie – “It doesn’t cost a thing to smile, you don’t have to pay to laugh.” She has a lot of great lyrics, but this is one of my favorites. The best thing in life (happiness) is free, so why not take advantage of it.

8. What are your top three personal highlights/achievements from 2014?

Well of course, landing a spot as a participant on House of DVF. This changed my life forever and I am so grateful. I learned about fashion, but more importantly life. Second, I became a mom, to my dog Rascal. This is the first time I have owned a dog myself, and I’m completely obsessed with him. Number three I would say was studying abroad this summer in London/Paris. I traveled all over Europe, saw so many beautiful sights but most importantly learned a lot about myself.
